This is the case of one most amazing architectural constructions in Alcalá, the Laredo's Palace.
Ubicado en pleno Paseo de la Estación -en lo que antaño fuese el eje de conexión de la estación de ferrocarril con el centro de la ciudad, único trazado urbano del siglo XIX que se conserva en Alcalá de Henares- esta construcción sorprende al viandante por su extraordinario y evocador porte que trae a nuestra imaginación recuerdos y referencias de lejanas épocas, países y leyendas de ensueño. El edificio bien podría constituir un escenario en el que imaginar historias fantásticas que pudieran tener lugar entre sus muros.
Placed in Stations´ Walk - that long time ago was the main connection between the railway station and downtown, that's the only urban layout from the XIXth century that has been preserved in Alcalá de Henares - this construction surprises the visitor because of its extraordinary and evoking way that brings to our imagination memories and references from the old times, countries and legends you want to dream of. The building could perfectly be a scenario where we could imagine fantastic histories that could take place inside its walls. La verdad es que no podía ser de otro modo si consideramos que esta magnífica construcción fue proyectada y levantada en el periodo que va desde el año 1881 hasta 1884 como un auténtico capricho por Manuel José Laredo y Ordoño, (arquitecto, pintor y dibujante que también fue alcalde de la ciudad) con la clara intención de convertirlo en residencia de recreo para descanso y solaz. Razón por la cual también se conoce a este espacio como Hotel Laredo, en referencia a la denominación de las casas de campo de la época.
The truth it's that it could not be any other way, if we consider that this amazing construction was designed and built during the period that goes from year 1881 to 1889 as an authentic caprice for Manuel José Laredo y Ordoño (architect, painter, drawer, who also was the city's major) with the clear intention of having it as a residence for amusement and resting. That's the reason why this space is also known as Hotel Laredo, in reference to the country houses of that time.
